- These instructions are intended specifically for installing XCache, an open-source opcode cacher, on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
- I’ll be working from a Liquid Web Core Managed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server with Apache and PHP installed, and I’ll be logged in as non-root user. If you need more information then visit our tutorial on How to Add a User and Grant Root Privileges on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
As a matter of best practice we’ll update our packages:
sudo apt-get update
Then let’s install XCache and any required packages:
sudo apt-get install php5-xcache
Now verify that the extension is available by using the following command:
php -m | grep XCache
Your result should be:
XCache
XCache
Listing the PHP version should now include information about XCache as well:
php -v
PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.18 with Suhosin-Patch (cli) (built: Apr 17 2015 15:11:25)
